Outreach and Engagement Services (OES) is a pilot program under the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) that focuses on providing street-level outreach and engagement services to populations who typically have difficulty accessing treatment. The team aims to provide education, collaboration, and easy access to resources that empower individuals to make informed choices while transitioning through their recovery process.
Services Provided
- Disease Prevention: Help reduce the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis C) by distributing clean needles and promoting safe injection practices.
- Education and Counseling: Offer educational resources and counseling to inform individuals about the risks associated with substance use and support them in making informed decisions about their health and well-being.
- Linkage to Services: Facilitate connections to healthcare services, addiction treatment programs, mental health services, housing assistance, and other necessary resources, ensuring individuals have access to appropriate care and support.
- Reducing Social Stigma: Work to reduce social stigma associated with substance use by promoting understanding, empathy, and compassion within the community and advocating for policies that support harm reduction efforts.
- Community Integration: Foster a sense of community and belonging among individuals who use substances by providing a non-judgmental and supportive environment where they can access resources and services.
- Advocacy and Policy Influence: Advocate for policies and practices that align with harm reduction principles, aiming to improve public health and safety through evidence-based approaches.
