The RHPS Fundraiser: A Spooktactular Success!

RISE did the time warp…for the first time at Universal Preservation Hall (UPH) on Friday, October 28, 2022 presenting our inaugural premier fundraising event with a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We surpassed our goal raising nearly $60,000, with a crowd of about 150 patrons who all reveled in good, spirited fun.

Sybil Newell, RISE Executive Director

“I couldn’t be more proud of my staff for putting together such a great event,” said Sybil Newell, RISE Executive Director. “I’m still hearing about it from people who attended saying how much fun they had. And for this to be our first fundraiser, and raising more than our goal, we’ve truly set the bar high for our next event. I’m so thankful to everyone involved who helped make this event such a huge success.”

Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner

“This is an organization whose name is so appropriate,” said Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, 113th District. “Every day the staff and volunteers rise up to help people in our community who are struggling with severe mental illness, the disease of addiction, and with other challenges. Their work in this community is vital, and I am so pleased to have been able to support them in
their efforts.”

“That was the most fun I’ve had at a fundraiser ever,” said Heidi Owen West, Owner at Lifestyles of Saratoga. “RISE puts the ‘FUN’ in ‘fundraiser’.”

Costume Contest Winners Jessie Altman and Heather Buskirk

With an event so interactive, attendees were able to participate in a costume contest as well, naming Jessie Altman and Heather Buskirk the winners.  Jessie said “That was the best Rocky Horror event I’ve ever been to!” Jessie is a self proclaimed member of the Rocky Legion.

Funds raised at the event will support RISE’s mission to help people living with mental health, substance use, and other life challenges to remain safe and healthy in the community through housing and supportive services. Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting these services.

Garland Nelson

Special thanks to Universal Preservation Hall for hosting, Adelphi for coordinating the food and drinks, and the Garland Nelson Trio for emceeing the event and keeping the party spooktacularly lively.
