Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health diagnosis. During May, RISE joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health.  Mental health is always important, but this year – with the lingering effects of the pandemic and a shift in “returning to normal” – it is at the top of the priority list. Because no matter how heavy and hard the world feels – and maybe especially because the world feels quite challenging right now – focusing on our mental health must remain a priority.

Together for Mental Health

This year’s theme – Together for Mental Health – helps us to bring our voices together to advocate for mental health and equitable access to care through the RISE blog, personal stories, videos, and social media engagements. Throughout the month, we will feature personal stories from people living with mental health challenges. By sharing their lived experience, we aim to encourage people to prioritize their mental health and increase awareness about mental illness. If you would like to share your story please Contact Us.

Advocate for Mental Health

Together, we can realize our shared vision of a nation where anyone affected by mental health diagnoses can get the appropriate support and quality of care to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Help us spread the word through awareness, support and advocacy activities. Join the  movement to advocate for a better mental health care system by taking when opportunities arise in your community.

Promote Personal Mental Health

Maintaining your own personal mental health and your ability to cope with life’s stressors while maintaining a good quality of life is important. The key is to utilizing the right tools and resources to find resilience when life feels depleting.

  • Maintain a regular schedule.
  • Stay connected with family, friends, and support systems using technology or safe in-person gatherings.
  • Keep your immune system strong by getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and maintaining a balanced diet.
  • Prioritize personal hygiene because the way you look impacts the way that you feel which in turn impacts performance.
  • Exercise and stay active by taking walks outside for fresh air, maintain your fitness routine.
