Celebrating Recovery Through Connection: RISE Above Honors National Recovery Month

Each September, National Recovery Month reminds us to celebrate the strength, resilience, and growth of those on the journey of recovery. At RISE Housing and Support Services, our RISE Above Residential Rehabilitation Program took this opportunity to honor recovery in a way that reflects what it truly means—community, joy, and hope.

This year, RISE Above hosted a series of sober activities that brought residents and staff together for fun, meaningful connection, and fresh experiences. From sharing laughter at a picnic, to friendly competition at the bowling alley, to enjoying the crisp fall air while apple picking at a local orchard, each event created space for something essential in recovery: genuine connection and joy without the presence of substances.

Sober activities are more than just fun outings—they’re a cornerstone of sustainable recovery. They help individuals rediscover what brings them happiness, foster a sense of belonging, and strengthen social support networks. By providing opportunities to engage in positive, community-centered experiences, RISE Above helps participants continue building lives filled with purpose, health, and self-discovery.

National Recovery Month is also a time to acknowledge that there is no single path to recovery. Every individual’s journey is unique, and RISE is proud to support each person wherever they are in that process. Whether someone finds strength through peer support, therapy, community engagement, or programs like RISE Above, we honor every effort and every milestone.

As we reflect on this year’s celebration, we’re filled with gratitude for the laughter, the shared stories, and the reminder that recovery is not just about overcoming challenges but about embracing life fully.

At RISE, we believe recovery deserves to be celebrated, not just in September, but every day.
